FC Winterthur were knocked out of the Swiss Cup in the round of 16 after a 92nd-minute goal from Pius Dorn gave FC Luzern a 1-0 victory. The late winner came from a corner in added time, sealing a painful exit for Winterthur in front of 7800 fans at the Schützenwiese.
The match was evenly balanced for long periods and remained goalless through regular time. Luzern had the first big chance in the 59th minute when Matteo Di Giusto found space for a shot. Antonio Spagnoli reacted instantly to pull off a miraculous save, denying the Luzern forward. "v.a. mit einer Blitzreaktion in der 59. den Führungstreffer der Luzerner vereitelte, als er den satten Flachschuss des freistehenden Matteo Di Giusto mirakulös parierte," Spagnoli said afterwards. At the other end, Antonio Marchesano hit the crossbar with a free kick in the 75th minute. Earlier, Daniel Mikolajewski had a first-half goal ruled out for offside.
The decisive moment arrived deep into added time. From a corner, Pius Dorn rose to head home the winner. It was Dorn's first goal since May 16th. "90.+2 Dorn 0:1," was the scorer's succinct summary.
