FC Winterthur suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Neuchatel Xamax on Friday. The loss in the tenth round of the Challenge League represents a setback in the title race.
Nicolas Gjorgjev put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute. Marco Facchinetti made it 2-0 shortly after the break before Louka Seydoux sealed the result in the 69th minute. Winterthur, who responded with two attacking substitutions at half-time, found no answer and failed to score.
The defeat costs FC Winterthur the chance to close the gap at the top of the table. Patrick Rahmen's team remains in second place with 18 points from nine games, three points behind leaders Stade Lausanne-Ouchy. The recent run of four consecutive victories is now over. The potent attack, which had scored 19 goals this season, was kept quiet in Neuchâtel.
The next challenge comes on October 17th in the Swiss Cup against Super League side FC Luzern. League action resumes on October 23rd with a home match against bottom-placed Stade Nyonnais.
