FC Winterthur have held onto second place in the Challenge League. Their 2-1 home win over FC Aarau on Friday evening took Patrick Rahmen's team to 18 points from nine games. They now sit just two points behind leaders Stade Lausanne-Ouchy.
The team is unbeaten since the second matchday. The current form of three wins and two draws from the last five matches is solid.
Squad situation ahead of the next match
Ahead of the next away game at Neuchatel Xamax on October 9th, several questions remain. For Winterthur, the injured Burkart and Essiam are still unavailable. The visitors continue to miss Marin Baturina, Itsuki Koide and Tim van der Werff. Emilio Kehrer, Yannis Odin, Matteo Spagnoli and Xavier Zuffi are considered doubtful for Winterthur.
The goals in the 2-1 win over Aarau were scored by Antonio Marchesano from the penalty spot in the 15th minute and Thibaud Golliard in the 76th minute. Golliard was also the match-winner in the 1-0 win at Carouge. The team has scored 19 goals this season and conceded only eight. That gives them a goal difference of plus eleven.
The FC Winterthur squad has changed significantly over the summer. New signings include Antonio Marchesano from Yverdon, Severin Ottiger from Luzern and Aldin Turkes from Sarajevo. At the same time, numerous players left the club, including Loïc Lüthi to Luzern and Rhodri Smith on loan to Young Boys.
The next game takes Winterthur to Neuchatel on October 9th. The opponent currently sits in sixth place.
